Vol. 28, No. 85

Al Jadid is a Review & Record of Arab Culture and Arts (www.aljadid.com). Al Jadid’s newest edition (Vol. 28, No. 85, 2024) explores contemporary culture and the arts. This issue brings the latest developments in Arab theater, revisiting the cultural legacies of the departed pillars of Arab modern theater Antoine Multaqa, Latifa Multaqa, and Raymond Jebara, as well as recent controversies surrounding the France-based Lebanese-Canadian playwright Wajdi Mouawad and his works in Lebanon. The issue also covers a selection of books and films touching on various topics across the Arab world: the Lebanese refugee experience, Sudan’s history, and the emergence of radicalism in one Tunisian family. Al Jadid also keeps abreast of the latest in the Arab literary and arts scenes, questions facing modern Arab intellectuals, and developments in French-Algerian relations. This issue also compiles a selection of essays relating to Lebanon’s war against Israel and the destruction left in its wake, both on the land and the survivors.
